Most people are taught the wrong order of how government money works.
We imagine:

  1. Government collects taxes

  2. It uses that money to spend

  3. Services exist only if taxpayers “pay for them”

That is not how a currency-issuing nation works.

The real order

  1. The Australian Government creates money

  2. It spends money into the economy

  3. That money becomes wages, pensions, services

  4. People pay taxes later

Government spending must happen first, or there would be no Australian dollars to tax.

Why this matters

  • Taxes do not fund spending

  • Spending comes from money creation

  • “We can’t afford it” is a political story, not a financial limit

  • Australia can always fund hospitals, housing, schools, and aged care

Short example

If the government builds a hospital:

  • It pays workers

  • Nurses shop locally

  • Shops pay staff

  • Money circulates

  • Some of that money returns as taxes

The spending creates the dollars.
